It was named after Charles Boyle (1676-1731), Earl of Orrery, who supported and patronised the design of an early planetarium by George Graham between 1704 and 1709. WebbThe first stellar atlas based in telescopic observations, the Atlas Coelestis was published only ten years after the death of Flamsteed, by his widow, assisted by Joseph Crosthwait and Abraham Sharp. It was preceded by the opus "Stellarum inerrantium Catalogus Britannicus" (or simply "British Catalogue", published in 1725, with 2919 stars).

Webbför 2 dagar sedan · Joseph Wright of Derby (1734 – 1797), has been acclaimed ‘the first professional painter to express the spirit of the Industrial Revolution.’ But he is perhaps best known for his paintings of candle-lit subjects and use of ‘tenebrism’, an exaggerated form of the chiaroscuro effect, which emphasises the contrast between light and dark. WebbWright was born in 1734 to a respectable family of lawyers and raised in Derby, but even as a young boy Joseph was mechanically-minded and curious. He would often wander around his hometown, which was to become the epicentre of Britain’s Industrial Revolution, and observe the work of the local craftsmen, and then do his best to copy them at home.
